The last leaves have fallen from the trees, their grey brown limbs stark against the bright blue winter sky. The cold winds of Autumn have stripped them in preparation for the frosts and snows of the coming months. The birds who had spent the long Spring and Summer hunting insects through the foliage have departed for warmer climes, the vast migrations completed now.

In the wood the World is quiet, the usual buzz of life subdued by the annual change of the seasons, the natural processes of growth and decay slowed, almost stopped, the heartbeat of the ancient landscape barely audible, but still there. Faint yet powerful, promising the coming Spring…
