The artist

The pencil scratches on the matt surface of the paper, the images of faces, people, buildings, streets coming to life as the work progresses. The paper has been divided into eight discrete cells, each cell telling a part of the story. Snapshots, a storyboard in progress. The characters appearing line by line as the pencil works it magic.

A single page, one of many that will form the visual journey of the characters through the landscape of the story, the narrative explored through the medium of the captured image. Already the final colours are suggested, the greys of the graphite transcend in the eye of the viewer into bold, vibrant shades, soft tones, highlights and lowlights. 

A work of beauty, a history dating back to the dawn of humanity, a means of recording a story that doesn’t depend solely on a shared language but more of shared experiences. The artist, the storyteller, the weaver of dreams…
